SAVANNAH, GA – See Fort Pulaski through the eyes of fort historian John R. Weaver II with this special in-depth tour of the fort on Thursday, April 18, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. Mr. Weaver will compare the features of Fort Pulaski with the other 41 masonry forts built in the mid-nineteenth century, showing what is unique to Fort Pulaski and what is common among the forts of this period. You may be surprised by his conclusions regarding the battle for the fort!

Mr. Weaver is a nationally known expert on masonry coastal defenses and is the author of the highly acclaimed A Legacy in Brick and Stone: Coastal Defense Forts of the American Third System, 1816-1867. He consults with the National Park Service and several state park agencies, training staff and volunteers on fortification history and technology. He is an active member and former chair of the Coast Defense Study Group, a member of the Council on America’s Military Past, and the Treasurer of the Camp Tippecanoe Civil War Roundtable.

Our Eastern National bookstore will have copies of Mr. Weaver’s new book, the second edition of A Legacy in Brick and Stone, available for purchase and for signing, if desired. This new edition is greatly expanded and has over 400 illustrations.
