Savannah, GA – As part of National Park Week 2014 (April 19 – 27), Fort Pulaski National Monument will hold special Junior Ranger Day activities on Saturday, April 26. Participants at Fort Pulaski can earn a special Junior Ranger Day certificate and patch by participating in a variety of experiences to learn more about the National Park Service and Fort Pulaski National Monument. Activities will include historic weapons drills, like those conducted by the Civil War soldiers that once lived and worked at Fort Pulaski.
Children will be able to do special activity sheets to earn National Park Service Civil War trading cards and explore the park while completing the park Junior Ranger program and earning a Junior Ranger badge.
Children can also earn a special Junior Civil War Historian patch. National Park Service sites across the country have banded together to encourage young visitors and their families to visit the special places where the Civil War unfolded to reexamine what that terrible conflict means to us today. There are two ways to become a Junior Civil War Historian.
Become a Junior Ranger at three (3) participating parks. Make sure you get a Park Ranger to initial and date your activity card (available at all participating parks). A list of participating parks is available at http://www.nps.gov/stri/forkids/jcwhparks.htm.
Once you have become a Junior Ranger at three parks, turn in your activity card at a participating park to receive your patch.
Become a Junior Ranger at two (2) participating parks and do one online activity. Online activities can be found at http://www.nps.gov/stri/forkids/jcwhonline.htm.
Turn in your activity card or Junior Ranger program booklets along with a printout of your completed online activity at a participating park to receive your patch.
