Savannah, Ga. – Fort Pulaski National Monument reopened Monday, September 17 at 11 a.m. following Hurricane Florence. Park officials completed an assessment of the park’s facilities and resources on Sunday and found no damage. The national monument closed on September 13 in anticipation of tropical impacts from the slow-moving, powerful hurricane.
All visitor facilities are open on their regular schedule. Fort Pulaski National Monument is located on U.S. Highway 80, 15 miles east of Savannah. Several national park areas in North Carolina remain closed due to the effects of Hurricane Florence. The National Park Service has prepositioned incident management and assessment teams to assist park staff in emergency stabilization efforts following the storm.
