SAVANNAH, GA – Fort Pulaski National Monument invites you to learn about the Adopt-A-Wetland Program and help park staff collect water quality data and four sites around the park.On Saturday, February 22, 2019, from 9:00-1:00, join park staff to learn about the process for wetland water quality monitoring and data collection, and how the data is used to determine wetland habitat health. The park is seeking regular volunteers to perform data collection once-per month, and this is your chance to learn about this opportunity and try your hand at collecting data.
The coastal Georgia Adopt-A-Wetland Program, coordinated by UGA Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant, is a hands-on education program that promotes wetland conservation through volunteer monitoring. The goals of the program are to educate the public on the importance of wetlands, increase public awareness of water quality issues, train citizens to monitor and protect wetlands and collect baseline wetland health data. All the data collected by volunteers is compiled by UGA Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant and then added to the Environmental Protection Division’s water quality database maintained at the Atlanta Adopt-A-Stream office.
Pre-registration is required. Please email Carly Nielsen, e-mail us for more information and to register to participate in the kickoff.
THINGS TO BRING: A reusable water bottle, appropriate clothing for the weather, footwear that can get wet and muddy, like rubber boots or hiking shoes, insect repellent, and sunscreen.
