The National Park Service (NPS) Units of Western Pennsylvania which include Allegheny Portage Railroad National Historic Site, Flight 93 National Memorial, Fort Necessity National Battlefield, Friendship Hill National Historic Site and Johnstown Flood National Memorial are offering weekly Facebook Live videos featuring each park unit starting March 31.
“Even though the parks are completely closed, we want to provide an opportunity for the public to enjoy and learn about our National Parks,” stated Stephen M. Clark, five park Superintendent. Kicking off the Facebook Live video series on Tuesday, March 31, Park Ranger Doug Bosley will share an overview of all five National Park Units here in Western Pennsylvania. All videos will also be shared between the Facebook pages of all five parks and be available for watching after they are aired.
“Facebook Live will allow everyone a glimpse into the collections that you don’t normally have an opportunity to view,” said Brian Reedy, Chief of Interpretation at Fort Necessity NB and Friendship Hill NHS. Each Western Pennsylvania National Park Unit will feature a Facebook live video once a week at 1:00 p.m.:
- Wednesday, April 1 -Fort Necessity National Battlefield
- Thursday, April 2 - Friendship Hill National Historic Site,
- Friday, April 3 - Allegheny Portage Railroad National Historic Site
- Monday, April 6 - Flight 93 National Memorial
- Tuesday, April 7- Johnstown Flood National Memorial
“We want to help make the time at home social distancing a little better by bringing what makes our sites special, to you live on Facebook,” stated Katherine Cordek, Flight 93 Spokeswoman. We hope to see you Live on Facebook, every weekday at 1:00 p.m. starting on Tuesday, March 31! Updates about NPS operations will be posted on www.nps.gov/coronavirus. Please check with individual parks for specific details about park operations.
