Fall 2012 Programs at Fire Island National Seashore

A variety of walks are planned at the William Floyd Estate this fall. Bundle up and explore the grounds around the Old Mastic House.

Fire Island National Seashore is offering a wide variety of guided tours and lectures this fall. From mid-October through December, several favorite seasonal programs are scheduled again at the Fire Island Lighthouse, William Floyd Estate, and Wilderness Visitor Center, along with several new programs.

Ranger-guided Walks and Tours
You can get outdoors and join a park ranger for several guided walks. Some of these free programs begin at Robert Moses State Park Field #5, and end at the Fire Island Lighthouse:

• October 21, 10 am - Noon: Bird Migration Walk
• October 27, 3 - 4:30 pm:Exploring the Lighthouse Nature Trail (starts at the Lighthouse terrace)
• November 3, 1 - 2:30 pm: Blueberries, Beach Plums and Rosehips, Oh My!

Several walks are planned around the grounds of the William Floyd Estate:

• October 20, 10 - 11:30 am: Old Mastic Architectural Tour
• October 27, 10 - 11:30 am: Documents in Stone
• November 3, 10 - 11:30 am: Colonial Uses of Wood
• November 10, 10 - 11:30 am: Cultural Landscape Walking Tour
• November 18, 9 - 11:30 am: Late Autumn Old Mastic Bird Walk

Lectures and Guest Speakers
Several illustrated programs will be offered indoors in November and December. At the Patchogue-Watch Hill Ferry Terminal (150 West Avenue in Patchogue, New York):

• November 11, 1 - 2 pm: Fishing Fire Island: National Park Marine Fisheries

Inside the Fire Island Lighthouse Fresnel Lens Buidling:

• November 17, 2 - 3 pm: The Bounty of Fire Island
• November 18, 2 - 3 pm: Fall Bird Migration
