Wet Walks at Everglades National Park

Sometimes called slough slogs, Everglades' wet walks are guided programs designed to immerse you in the park’s unique freshwater ecosystems. These hands-on adventures take you through shallow marshes and sloughs, giving you a closer look at the plants, animals, and ecological processes that make Everglades one of the most distinctive landscapes in the world.

What to Expect:

  • Interactive Learning: Rangers lead the walk, pointing out native flora and fauna, explaining how water shapes the ecosystem, and sharing the cultural history of Everglades.
  • Good for Visitors: Wet walks are great for families with older kids, students, and visitors of all experience levels. (Note: Some ranger-led programs may have age or height requirements.)
  • Hands-On Experience: Wade through shallow water (ankle- to waist-deep) and explore the park in an up-close and personal way.

Tips for Participants:

  • Wear quick-drying clothes and water shoes or old sneakers.
  • Bring sunscreen, a hat, and insect repellent.
  • Prepare to get wet. These walks are an immersive experience!
  • Conditions vary as water levels fluctuate with the changing seasons.

When & Where:
Wet walks are offered at select times at multiple park locations. Check the park calendar or stop by a visitor center for schedules, availability, and and more information.
