Job Title: Fire Dispatcher

Location: Pine Island Fire Cache, Homestead, FL

Hours Per Week: Flexible, Mon-Fri

Hours Per Month: Flexible


Description of Duties: Fire is a natural and integral part of the Everglades ecosystem. The fire management division is involved in the control of wildfires, as well as the planning and implementation of prescribed fire operations. Become part of the fire management team by monitoring park fire radio frequencies, operating radios, telephones and computers to communicate with field personnel and firefighters managing wildland fire and aviation operations, using computerized systems to gather weather and fire data and distribute daily weather and fire forecasts, and answering central phone lines.


Benefits: Volunteers will gain radio skills and knowledge of fire-related activities and programs.

Goal/Outcome of Position: To provide information to firefighters to enhance safety and situational awareness.


Knowledge/Skills/Experience Desired: The volunteer should have an interest in fire management and communication. The volunteer should also have the ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
