Death Valley National Park and Furnace Creek Resort invite the Las Vegas Astronomical Society (LVAS) to conduct their 10th Anniversary Star Party on January 28 and 29, 2011. The weekend will include stargazing, solar viewing, and night sky tours. National Park Rangers will join LVAS for dark sky program presentations, and will continue to host programs through the spring months. Members of the Las Vegas Astronomical Society have been bringing their telescopes and expertise to Death Valley to share with the public for 10 years. There will be between 10-20 various-sized and types of scopes available for viewing, each trained on a different celestial object including planets, stars, nebula, star clusters, and galaxies. Some members also offer computerized viewing. The knowledgeable members of LVAS are happy to provide information and answer questions. At 8pm each night, long-time LVAS member John Heller will conduct an informative night sky tour to orient participants to what is visible in the sky that night. He will point out constellations and explain celestial phenomena in easy to understand language. On Saturday afternoon, members will set up solar scopes which will allow the public to see an "up-close and personal" view of the sun.
