Death Valley National Park will host a Star Party on Saturday, March 5, 2011. The event will begin at 7pm at the Harmony Borax Works, about one mile north of Furnace Creek on Highway 190. National Park Rangers will conduct dark sky program presentations as part of the Dark Night Sky series.

Park rangers will conduct an informative night sky tour to orient participants to what is visible in the sky that night. Several telescopes will be available for viewing. Rangers will point out constellations and explain celestial phenomena in easy to understand language. Families are welcome, there will be a special program for children and Junior Rangers.

Death Valley National Park is pursuing an International Dark Sky Park designation to bring attention to its world-class night sky features. The application will be considered by the International Dark Sky Association based in Tuscon, AZ. Only one other National Park Service unit has achieved this designation to date, Natural Bridges National Monument.

Come enjoy the crystal clear desert skies in Death Valley National Park...a rare treasure. For additional information please contact Cheryl Chipman at 760-786-3207or visit our listing of ranger programs on the website at https://www.nps.gov/deva/planyourvisit/tours.htm.
