The National Park Service announces the release of an Environmental Assessment for the Headquarters Area Plan for Denali National Park and Preserve. The plan examines alternatives for future development of the headquarters area of Denali including the Headquarters Historic District, which was developed between 1925 and 1941 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The plan provides alternatives for rehabilitating the cultural landscape of the historic district to restore it to conditions resembling those during its historic period of significance, and to create opportunities for park visitors to see and learn about the district. The alternatives also contain proposals for resolving various administrative and residential issues within the broader headquarters area. This plan is necessary for implementing components of the 1997 Entrance Area and Road Corridor Development Concept Plan. The Environmental Assessment is available for public comment through Friday, October 12. Interested members of the public may review and comment on the document on-line by following the link in the “What’s New” section of the Denali website at www.nps.gov/dena. A printed copy of the document may also be requested from the Superintendent’s Office by calling (907) 683-9581, e-mail us, or writing to: Superintendent, Denali National Park and Preserve, P.O. Box 9, Denali Park, AK 99755. -NPS- |
