The public is invited to participate in the activities and presentations being offered for the eighth annual Upper Susitna Earth Day Celebration. The 2008 festivities are taking place on Saturday, April 19, 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Sheldon Community Arts Hanger in downtown Talkeetna.
The theme for the Earth Day celebration this year is "What do YOU buy? Sustainable Consumer Choices." This locally sponsored and staffed event will feature a wide variety of exhibits and activities suitable for all ages. There will be food, crafts, art, short films, door prizes and lots of important consumer information. Free fair trade coffee will be available to those who bring their own cup, or can be purchased for $1.00 for those needing a paper cup. Food will be served on recycled plates and sharing of plates within families is encouraged. Anyone who walks, bikes, or carpools to Earth Day will be given a free bumper sticker.
Earth Day revelers will be able to recycle paper, cardboard, #1 and #2 plastics, aluminum, and tin cans. Glass and scrap metal will not be accepted.
The event is made possible by the many volunteers, businesses and organizations that support sustainable living. Additional information is available from Jenni Burr, National Park Service Education Specialist, at (907) 733-9110 or e-mail us.
