Fire Management staff at Denali National Park and Preserve are planning to burn a pile of debris consisting of trees and branches between Monday, October 22 and Wednesday, October 31. Ignition of the pile will occur in the morning, conditions permitting.
The pile is located approximately ½ mile east of the Denali Visitor Center between the McKinley Airstrip and the Riley Creek Campground. The material being burned is from hazard fuel reduction (fire protection) around structures, and from various maintenance projects around the park.
Smoke may be visible in the area from the Denali Park Road, aircraft, and the George Parks Highway.
NPS Fire Management staff will be monitoring the burn on site. The pile is expected to burn for two to three days.
Additional park information can be obtained by calling 907-683-9532 from 9:00 am - 4:00 pm daily. Stay connected with "DenaliNPS" on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Flickr, and iTunes
