A wide variety of classes taking place in summer 2011 in Denali and Wrangell-St. Elias National Parks are now available for registration. The courses, offered through the Murie Science and Learning Center, immerse participants into subjects of cultural and natural history and provide visitors with an in-depth national park experience. The classes are small, but the classrooms are grand! Courses are coordinated by Alaska Geographic and the Wrangell Mountains Center.

The seminars and teacher trainings are for participants of all ages, with some designed specifically for families. Seminar topics include birds, natural history, field sketching, mammals, wildflowers, fly fishing, and landscape painting. Teacher trainings include wolves, science writing, and using iMovie. Professional development credit is available for all courses. A complete list of classes and registration is available at or by calling (907)683-1269.

Most courses are based out of the Murie Science and Learning Center Field Camp, located 29 miles inside Denali National Park along the Teklanika River. From this spectacular location participants set out daily to explore the park’s diverse environments. The Field Camp includes rustic tent cabins and a common dining tent. All meals, accommodations, transportation, and instruction are included.

The Murie Science and Learning Center (MSLC), hosted at Denali National Park and Preserve, consists of many partnerships focused on ultimately increasing the effectiveness and communication of research and science results in the national parks. The MSLC provides research, discovery, and learning opportunities within arctic and subarctic National Parks to promote appreciation and caring for our natural and cultural heritage.
