Upper Susitna Communities Celebrate Earth Day!

The public is invited to join the Upper Susitna Valley’s tenth annual Earth Day Celebration, taking place on Saturday, April 17 from 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at the Sheldon Community Arts Hanger in downtown Talkeetna.

The theme for this year’s celebration is "Grow Awareness." This locally sponsored and staffed event features a wide variety of exhibits and activities suitable for all ages.  There will be food, crafts, art, short films, door prizes and lots of important consumer information.  Free fair trade coffee will be available to those who bring their own cup, or can be purchased for $1.00 for those needing a cup.

The following items will be accepted for recycling during the day’s activities:  cardboard,
#1 and #2 plastics, aluminum, and steel cans.  The event will not be able to accept glass and scrap metal.  Recycling services are facilitated by ARAMARK.

Earth Day is made possible by the many volunteers, businesses, and organizations that support sustainable living, including Alaska Geographic and the National Park Service.  For additional information, you may contact Colleen Coulon Love, Alaska Geographic Earth Day Coordinator, at (907) 733-2174 or Bob Henry, National Park Service Education Specialist, at (907) 733-9110 or Robert_Henry@nps.gov.
