June 17, 2025 Update

June 17, 2025 Posted by: K. Karnes

While work is continuing to progress as scheduled, this week we're taking a look back at how we got to where we are today.

New to the blog and wondering why we're building a bridge? Read all about the history and geology of the Pretty Rocks Landslide and the challenges of maintaining a road at this location.

A new time-lapse video from last year (June to November 2024) shows the landslide speed up in late summer due to warming permafrost, then slow down as winter arrives. Look for the first four trusses of the bridge to appear as they were erected on the east side of the slide in the fall.

Looking up at the side of Polychrome mountain from a gravel river bar. Midway up the slope, several trusses of the bridge can be seen in progress on the east side of the landslide.Photo taken on June 2, 2025 from the river valley below the landslide. Additional trusses have been constructed since the photo was taken.
