Gunnison, Colo. – The National Park Service seeks public input on a proposed project to replace the water and wastewater systems within Curecanti National Recreation Area.
The proposed project will focus on Elk Creek Marina and Campground and Lake Fork Marina and Campground, two of the highest visitor-use areas of the park. The current infrastructure is almost 60 years old and in need of repairs and upgrading. The proposed work would improve system efficiency and operation, provide more resiliency to extreme weather events, maximize the lifecycle of these systems and sustain the park’s current infrastructure.
Crews will replace primary and secondary water and wastewater pipelines and infrastructure at Elk Creek and Lake Fork and upgrade monitoring systems to improve operational efficiency. This project is funded by the Legacy Restoration Funds, authorized by the Great American Outdoor Act.
The public can comment between Feb. 26 and March 27, 2026. For more information or to comment, please visit parkplanning.nps.gov/CURE-2025WATERANDWASTE. The National Park Service will consider all feedback in the final decision on the proposed project in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act.
