Despite being in a high elevation desert, Coronado National Memorial is home to a wonderful diversity of trees and shrubs. In the higher elevations you can find Mexican pinon, Ponderosa pine, and alligator juniper lining the trails and spotting the dry hillsides. In the lower areas manzanita trees with their unmistakable reddish colored bark surround the visitor center and roadsides. In the vicinity of ephemeral drainages, Arizona sycamore, walnut trees, canyon grape vines can be seen flourishing around these seasonal water sources. |
