Congaree National Park Reopens to Visitors

Congaree National Park re-opened to visitors yesterday. Visitors can access facilities, public areas and roads immediately. CongareeNational Park has been closed since October 1 due to the lapse in Congressional appropriations.

"We are excited and happy to be back at work and welcome visitors to Congaree National Park," said Superintendent Tracy Stakely. "With its mild temperatures and fall color, autumn is a particularly special season to enjoy all that Congaree has to offer. I encourage visitors to take a hike in the park or attend a guided program this month. All programs are free and begin at the Harry Hampton Visitor Center."

Better with Age: Join a ranger for a short program about the value of Congaree's towering old-growth forest.

Nature Discovery: Walk with a park volunteer to look and listen for animals in the forest.

The Harry Hampton Visitor Center is open 9:00 am-5:00 pm, Tuesday-Saturday, year-round.The facility is closed on Sunday, Monday and all Federal Holidays.Visitors are encouraged to explore Congaree at any time, as the park's trails and campgrounds remain open 24 hours, 7 days per week. Law enforcement and emergency services operations are available to visitors 7 days per week.
