The public is invited to join park rangers and volunteers for programs at Congaree National Park in April and May. All programs are free. Bark in the Park: Join a park ranger on a 2.4 mile, dog-friendly hike to learn how people and animals have interacted with the forest over time. The best behaved dog will take home an official "Bark Ranger" bandana! Limited to ten participants. Reservations required. Contact the visitor center. April 13 & May 4, 11, 18 @ 2:00 pm Eternal Cypress: Meet at Stop #3 on the boardwalk to learn about the survival of the majestic bald cypress. April 13 & May 11, 18 @ 11:00 am & May 25 @ 2:00 pm National Junior Ranger Day: Young visitors can fly in to the visitor center to learn about birding with a park ranger at any time during the hours listed below. The park's new Junior Ranger program booklets will also be available. Participants will earn an official Junior Ranger patch and badge! April 20, 10:00 am-12:00 pm & 2:00-4:00 pm Moonlight Creatures: Take a walk on the wild side during this special evening program. Reservations required. Contact the visitor center. April 27 & May 4, 18 @ 8:00 pm Nature Discovery: Walk with a park volunteer to look and listen for animals in the forest. April 6, 13, 20 & May 4, 11, 18 @ 9:30 am Tree Trek: Join a ranger to explore the old-growth forest along the boardwalk. April 7, 14, 21 & May 5, 19, 25, 26, 27 @ 10:00 am Weston Lake Wilderness Hike: Take a 4.5-mile trek into Congaree's Wilderness with a park ranger. May 5 & 19 @ 1:30 pm Congaree, along with the nation's 400 other national park units, will celebrate National Park Week April 20-28.This year's theme is "Did You Know".Stop by the "Did You Know" display in the Harry Hampton Visitor Center to share fun facts about national parks and join rangers for programs. Through a partnership with Fulmer Middle School art teacher Melanie Ward, student art representing national parks around the country will be on display in the Harry Hampton Visitor Center through May.
