On Monday, September 13, 2010, pavement preservation work will begin on Rim Rock Drive in Colorado National Monument. The work will be conducted by Intermountain Slurry Seal, Inc., working under contract to the Federal Highways Administration. The work will occur weekdays between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.

In order to facilitate the safe and timely completion of this work, occasional traffic delays will occur with traffic flow being directed by flagging personnel. All paved surfaces and parking areas along Rim Rock Drive will be treated during the course of this project. This includes the busy east hill and a section of the DS Road located within Colorado National Monument. Glade Park commuters might wish to consider using the county’s Little Park Road during the road work time periods to avoid work zone delays.

The pavement preservation project consists of patching, crack sealing, chip sealing, micro surfacing, and striping. Chip sealing requires the use of large pieces of equipment approximately ten feet in width. Delays of up to 15 minutes are possible.

During this project the Saddlehorn Picnic Area will be closed from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.

The project is expected to conclude in mid-October, weather permitting. The public is invited to call the park offices at 970-858-3617 ext. 300 for the latest updates and changes.
