Open House to be Held at Monument East Entrance Fruita, CO - Colorado National Monument, in partnership with their non-profit Friends Group, Colorado National Monument Association (CNMA), will host an Open House at the East Side Garage (at the east entrance) on Thursday, December 18 between 4 and 6 p.m. Hot cider and cookies will be served and the public is encouraged to stop by. The Open House is an opportunity for local residents to interact with the monument's staff and board members of CNMA in an informal setting. While no formal proposal has been developed, some preliminary ideas for the area include the development of a plaza on land where in the past, two government houses were situated. Using this "footprint," the intent is to find ways to better serve students and others on school field trips, as well as other members of the public. A full range of options including shade structures, picnic tables, rest rooms, water, and informational and interpretive panels could e a part of the planning, but gaining public input is an important first step in the process. CNMA intends to adopt this project as a fundraising opportunity in 2015. Additionally, this project has the potential to interface with Mesa Land Trust's "Monument Road Vision." |
