MONUMENT TO PERMIT ONE-WAY VEHICLE TRAFFIC DURING RIM ROCK MARATHON
Rim Rock Drive in Colorado National Monument will be limited to one-way vehicle traffic on Saturday, November 12, 2011, from 8:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. during the Rim Rock Marathon. One-way traffic only will be permitted from the west (Fruita) entrance to the east (Grand Junction) entrance.
The marathon will start just east of the intersection of South Camp Road and Monument Road (0.8 miles from the monument's east entrance) at 8:00 a.m. Eastbound traffic exiting the Monument at this time may experience a delay of approximately 45 minutes.
As the marathon progresses, Rim Rock Drive will reopen to two-way traffic by stages, with westbound access to Glade Park opening first. Rim Rock Drive from the east entrance to the Glade Park turnoff (DS Road) will be open for two-way traffic at approximately 9:30 a.m. Westbound traffic from Grand Junction to Glade Park should plan to use Little Park Road between the hours of 7:30 - 9:30 a.m. During the one-way restriction, the speed limit for the entire road will be 25 miles per hour, and no passing will be permitted. All vehicles, including bicycles, will be limited to eastbound travel only. Rim Rock Drive is scheduled to reopen to normal traffic at 1:00 p.m.
