In-Classroom Programs for Local Schools

A Colorado National Monument park ranger might be available to visit your classroom if you teach in Mesa County, Colorado! You might be seeking a park ranger to come to your class if you:

  • Are unable to come to the monument for a field trip
  • Are doing a special project that can benefit with a presentation by a subject matter expert
  • Want to do something special for your class earlier in the semester
  • Don't want to bring your learners outside for hours during the hottest (Aug-Sep) or coldest (Jan-Mar) times of the school year
  • Don't want to make the park rangers be outside for hours during the hottest or coldest times of the school year (we thank you)

Send us an email to COLM_Education@nps.gov to schedule a date and time when you'd like to have a ranger lead an in-classroom program for your learners. Subjects that we typically teach include earth sciences, life sciences, and local history. We need approximately two weeks in advance for scheduling.

Since our education rangers and volunteers are leading field trips in the monument almost every day during the second half of each semester, an in-classroom visit is more likely during the first half of the semester or on Mondays or Fridays throughout the schoolyear.

Please note that this option is currently only available to educators in Mesa County, Colorado.

If a ranger isn't able to come to your classroom in person, we may be able to schedule a distance learning program, where you set up a video call for the park ranger to virtually visit the class. Use our Microsoft Bookings link to schedule a one-hour virtual program, and select virtual pre- or post-visit to see available times. If an in-classroom program isn't what you're looking for, check out our field trip programs or educational videos.
