Clara Barton Parkway
From Monday, November 30 to Friday, December 4, construction workers will do paving and patching work from 7:15 p.m. to 6:15 a.m. The road will remain open, but one lane will close where work is happening. The work will be on the parkway:
Until the end of 2020, the National Park Service will work to completely repave the entire Clara Barton Parkway (Chain Bridge to MacArthur Boulevard at Carderock, MD). The parking lot at Lock 7 in Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park will be closed until the project is complete.
[UPCOMING] Cabin John – Ericsson Road Intersection closure
On Monday, November 30, the NPS will temporarily close access from the Cabin John Access Road to Ericsson Road. We will only close one side of the intersection at a time. The closures will happen on the:
Cabin John residents who use Ericsson Road will be able to access their homes but may have to wait for construction equipment to move out of their way. There will be rolling closures in early December to stripe the ramps. The schedule may change if there is bad weather.
[ONGOING] Lane closure from Glen Echo Turnaround to the Cabin John Parkway
The left lane of the Clara Barton Parkway will close in both directions between the Glen Echo Turnaround and the Cabin John Parkway. The closures will happen:
The closure is to set up equipment and rehabilitate the overhanging bridge that supports one lane of the road westbound. This is part of the ongoing project to completely repave the Clara Barton Parkway. Learn more at go.nps.gov/CBParkwayRepaving
[ONGOING] Rolling lane closures
Until early-December, there will be rolling lane closures from Lock 6 to the Glen Echo Turnaround. Workers will mill and pave (resurface) the road. The closures will happen on both sides of the road, and the NPS will time the closures so that peak traffic will always be able to travel. This means the rolling closures will happen westbound in mornings and will happen eastbound in evenings. The work needs to happen during the day because workers need relatively warm, daytime temperatures to install asphalt.
[ONGOING] Ramp and road closures
In early December, the NPS will completely close parts of the Clara Barton Parkway from Chain Bridge to the Glen Echo Turnaround. The closures will begin at about 10 a.m. and end around 5 p.m. The closures are scheduled to happen:
The closure is to mill and pave (resurface) the road. The NPS will post a detour while the work is happening. This work needs to happen during the day because workers need relatively warm, daytime temperatures to install asphalt. The schedule may change if there is bad weather.
