Routine Maintenance Projects - Sustaining Visitor Experiences

2020 (planned)

  • Installation of 12 new wayside exhibits at the Visitor Center and throughout City of Rocks – Spring/Early Summer
  • Trail maintenance: Stripe Rock Loop, Creekside Towers, Indian Grove, Sky Line Connector, Boxtop, Flaming Rock, Steinfell's Dome, Jackson’s Thumb – Spring/Summer/Fall
  • Gravel road maintenance along county roads and campground loops – Spring/Summer/Fall
  • 4 Miles of fence repair along livestock grazing allotment – Spring/Summer
  • Removal of hazardous tree snags along Rim Road between Bath Rock and King on the Throne – Fall

2021 (anticipated, pending funding)

  • Trail maintenance: Tea Kettle, Bumblie Wall, Stairways
  • Replace cistern tank and water filtration system at Bath Rock
  • Replace fire rings and picnic tables at Juniper Group Camp, Twin Sisters Group Camp, and lower Campground Loop

2022 (anticipated, pending funding)

  • Trail maintenance: Geo Watt, North Fork to Circle Creek, South Fork to Circle Creek
  • 2 Miles of fence repair along livestock grazing allotment
  • Remove hazard trees in heavily wooded portions of trails: Banana/Beef Jello, Steinfell's Dome/Jackson’s Thumb, North Fork to Circle Creek, Boxtop, Flaming Rock, Creekside Towers, South Fork to Circle Creek, Stairways
 

Capital Improvement Projects - Enhancing Visitor Experiences and Safety

Accessibility Upgrades (planned)

Addressing identified barriers to accessibility within The Reserve by upgrading facilities, services, activities, and programs to be more inclusive to those with disabilities as well as instilling a culture around creating universal access.

  • 2020 – Complete immediate-term goals outlined in the Accessibility Self-Evaluation and Transition Plan
  • 2021 – Complete short-term and some mid-term goals outlined in the Accessibility Self-Evaluation and Transition Plan
  • 2022 – (Pending Funding) Begin long-term goals and finish more complex mid-term goals as outlined in the Accessibility Self-Evaluation and Transition Plan

Rim DCP (planned)

Addressing issues identified in the Rim DCP plan (part of the General Management Plan) including campsite placement, day-use access, road/parking safety, and the presence of functional/usable tent pads, picnic tables, and fire rings at every campsite.

  • 2020/2021 – Continue to replace old picnic tables and fire rings in existing campsites
  • 2020/2021 – Continue to add and repair tent pads in existing campsites
  • 2022 – (Pending Funding) Begin to address long term goals of Rim DCP plan including constructing new campsites, closing poorly placed campsites, converting some campsites to day-use sites, constructing new parking areas, closing hazard roads, adding new roads, adding a new vault toilet
