CHRISTIANSTED –The Eastern National bookstore, a cooperating association with the National Park Service, will sponsor this month's Virgin Island's history lecture in the Steeple Building of the Christiansted National Historic Site. Ms. Monica Auradou will host a program that brings three local authors together to discuss current themes in their work and in how Virgin Island's history is discussed in our community. We welcome, for the second year, Mr. Richard Schrader, Poet Laureate of the Virgin Islands, to the stage to read from his past and current work. Dr. Karen Thurland, who has just published a book on the history of sugar production on St. Croix, will also present from her recent work. Her sister, Anne Thurland will discuss Virgin Island's participation in the Second World War from her recent book on the 873rd Port Company's Virgin Islands Orchestra from that period. Eastern National and the National Park Service are proud to bring these authors together to share their thoughts and ideas in an open forum with the public. The program will run from 5:30-6:30 PM at the Christiansted National Historic Site, and parking will be free of charge at the NPS parking lot until 7:00 PM. As always, a meeting of the Friends of the St. Croix National Parks will meet from 4:30-5:30 PM prior to the lecture and we welcome people to come engage with this developing group of community supporters. Christiansted National Historic Site just celebrated its 63rd anniversary, we look forward to seeing you here!
