St. Croix, US Virgin Islands – Are you, or someone you know, that is at least 18 years old and looking for a way to build leadership skills while working a fun and exciting summer job? If so, you may be interested in working for the National Park Service as a Team Leader for the Youth Conservation Corps at Christiansted National Historic Site. The Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) was established as a summer employment program for young men and women who work and learn together on projects that further the development and conservation of the natural resources of the United States, while developing an ethic of environmental stewardship and civic responsibility.
Participants will get paid to work, learn, and gain leadership skills. No prior experience is needed, just an eagerness to make a difference. This job entails outside physical work in temperatures frequently above 85° F. Participants may be exposed to insects, prickly plants, and adverse weather. Projects could include debris removal, brush clearing, trail construction, painting, pruning trees, weed eating, and erosion control projects. In addition to these tasks, the park will provide environmental education, field trips, and experience in a wide array of Park Service career opportunities, including Facilities and Maintenance, Administration, Resource Management (Biology, History, Anthropology, and Museums Collections), Interpretation, and Law enforcement experiences.
The YCC session dates for Christiansted National Historic Site are June 8 – July 28, 2023.

The job is 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, paid at $13 per hour. In addition to hourly pay participants have the opportunity to receive academic scholarships and Public Land Crop (PLC) hours which can be used towards future employment opportunities. Applicants MUST be available for work from 7:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. Monday-Friday, 40 hours a week beginning on June 8th and ending on July 28th with no unexcused absences or vacations.Applicants must be a permanent resident of the United States, have a Social Security card, have a desire and willingness to work outside, have no history of serious crime or anti-social behavior that might create safety problems, and possess the ability to work well with others. In addition, the applicant’s parent or legal guardian must consent to the teen working and be able to provide the proper type of work clothing such as jeans and work boots.
