Williamsport, Md. - Due to high water flow in the Potomac River the inspections of Dam # 4 and Dam #5 were delayed. The inspections were originally scheduled for August 1.Once the water flow diminished late this week, it allowed for a water level drawdown and a visual inspection of both dams proceeded on Thursday and Friday, August 4th and 5th. The lower water levels will be maintained until Monday afternoon on August 8th in order to complete all required inspections.

Boaters on both dam reservoirs need to use caution and heightened awareness when operating on the water this weekend. Obstacles not normally present may become a hazard due to the lower water levels. Boat and dock owners in the reservoirs of both dams are also encouraged to prepare for the rise of water levels back to normal on Monday afternoon, August 8th.

The water drawdown at both dams is accomplished by diverting water through the hydroelectric plants located at both dams. Visitors are welcomed to take this opportunity to visit both dams and see what they look like without water flowing over them.

Please call John Adams, Safety Officer, at 240-625-7082 for more information.
