Williamsport, MD - Carol Nase, experienced Canal Classroom Corps teacher and volunteer at the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park (C&O Canal), will be giving a presentation on the Underground Railroad and its role in the history of the C&O Canal on Saturday, February 25th at 10:00 a.m. at the Trolley Barn, located in Williamsport, MD next to the Cushwa Basin Visitor Center.

The program will discuss the role that our region and the C&O Canal played in helping enslaved people escape to the North. The program will feature narratives from escaped runaway slaves and African American men and women who worked on the canal during its operational period. Attendees will also have the opportunity to evaluate what freedom means to them and consider the difficulties of escaping slavery.

The event is free and space is limited to the first 25 guests. If you would like to attend this event, please RSVP with your name and how many will be in your party. For more information or to RSVP, please contact Dorothy McQuaid, Assistant Volunteer Coordinator, at e-mail us.
