Cumberland, Md. - The Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park (C&O Canal) will be conducting a ranger led hike over top the Paw Paw Tunnel on Saturday, September 17, 2016, beginning at 10 a.m. Visitors are welcome to join a ranger for a four-mile loop hike over top Sorrel Ridge and back through the Paw Paw Tunnel. Come explore the nature and history surrounding the largest structure along the C&O Canal. Tunnel Hill is a fairly steep trail, so visitors should wear comfortable, sturdy shoes and be prepared for a strenuous hike. Since there is no lighting inside the tunnel, it is also recommended to bring a flashlight.

Meet the ranger at the campground amphitheater, adjacent to the parking area, at 10 a.m. to begin the hike which will last about 2 hours. The Paw Paw Tunnel parking area and campground is located 25 miles southeast of Cumberland, Maryland, off MD Rt. 51, and directly across the Potomac River from Paw Paw, West Virginia.

For additional information about the hike, call the C&O Canal Cumberland Visitor Center at (301) 722-8226.
