National Park Service seeks public input on proposed transportation upgrades to Fletcher’s Cove

WASHINGTON—The National Park Service (NPS) wants to learn what you think about proposed transportation upgrades to Fletcher’s Cove, also known as the Fletcher’s Boathouse area, in Washington, DC. The NPS welcomes your feedback and suggestions about our proposal to construct a new entrance and upgrade park roads and parking lots. These improvements will provide a more direct and safe transportation connection between Fletcher’s Cove and Canal Road, the C&O Canal towpath, and the Capital Crescent Trail.

The proposed project area is located on federal land between Canal Road and the Potomac River in the Palisades neighborhood of Washington, DC. This area is administered by the Chesapeake & Ohio (C&O) Canal National Historical Park. The C&O Canal National Historical Park is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and the DC Inventory of Historic Sites.

There are three ways to comment during a 30-day public review period from April 15, 2019 to May 15, 2019:

  • In Person at our open house  Thursday, May 2 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Palisades Neighborhood Library, 4901 V Street, NW, Washington, DC 20007

  • Online through the Park Planning, Environment & Public Comments (PEPC) website at http://parkplanning.nps.gov/fletchers

  • By Mail for letters postmarked by May 15, 2019:

Public participation is vital to our planning process. The 30-day public comment period is the first step in the Environmental Assessment and Section 106 processes the NPS is conducting in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA).

Please be aware that the entire comment submitted – including personal identifying information such as address, phone number, and email address – may be made publicly available. Requests to withhold such personal identifying information from public release will be considered, but there is no guarantee that they will be withheld.
