Potomac, MD - On Sunday, March 19, join us at the Great Falls Tavern located in the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal National Historical Park (C&O Canal) to discover the story and song of the Irish. Canal Historian Dr. Karen Gray will explore the history of Irish immigrants and the C&O Canal story. Historic illustrations and narratives of 19th century of these immigrant laborers tell the tale of sweat and toil that made the dream of the canal a reality. Learn about the work, culture, struggle, and labor unrest surrounding their story. Did they face bias and injustice from the C&O Canal Company, contractors and bosses, and the local communities? Come and find out! |
