Performance of the Gilmore Light Ensemble
Potomac, MD. - Have you ever imagined how the holidays were celebrated in the mid-19th century? On Sunday, December 4th from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm, come and enjoy a holiday music concert at the historic Great Falls Tavern located at the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park (C&O Canal) in Potomac, Maryland and experience it for yourself. Sponsored by the Friends of the Historic Great Falls Tavern, the event will feature Gilmore’s Light Ensemble, a 19th century-inspired band performing traditional music and carols using hammered dulcimer, guitar, banjo, and accordion. The historic Great Falls Tavern, built between 1828 and 1831, has been decorated for the Holiday season courtesy of the Little Farms Garden Club of Potomac, MD. The concert is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.
Dulcimer Music for the Holidays
Want to learn to play a historical musical instrument? Come to the Great Fall Tavern on Saturday, December 10th between 1:00 pm and 4:00 pm, and experience the music of the Mountain Dulcimers of Northern Virginia. Visitors may try their hand at playing a hammered dulcimer. The concert is free and visitor participation is encouraged.
Holiday Duo performs Holiday Music
Experience the holidays at a slower pace as you enjoy vintage holiday music by vocalists Marilyn Leeseberg and Sara Rasmussen. On Saturday, December 17, Marilyn and Sara perform holiday songs accompanied by guitar, xylophone, bells, and mandolin. The concert consists of two 45 minute sets at 2:00 pm and 3:00 pm and are free.
