Williamsport, MD - Enjoy local residents' stories about life on the C&O Canal at the 4th Annual Canal Family Reunion from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Sunday, August 28, 2011.The reunion will take place at the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park Visitor Center at the Cushwa Basin, 205 W. Potomac Street in Williamsport, Maryland. Have you ever wondered what life was like for families who lived and worked on the C&O Canal nearly 100 years ago? Along the 184.5 mile-long C&O Canal that extends from Georgetown to Cumberland there are families who trace their ancestry to the old waterway.Area residents will share stories passed down through generations and talk about life on the canal. The Canal Family Reunion is sponsored in partnership with the Town of Williamsport and the C&O Canal Association.It is part of the Williamsport Canal Days festival to be held on Saturday and Sunday, August 27-28, 2011, at Byron Park in Williamsport and the Cushwa Basin. Additional festival events at the Cushwa Basin include ranger-led bike tours at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. A limited number of bicycles are available for loan for those who do not have one.From 12:00 noon to 3:00 p.m., on Sunday, Matthew Dodd will share songs and tales of the C&O Canal. On Saturday and Sunday a new canal launch boat will be displayed in the parking area.Canal launch boat tours will be offered at Williamsport beginning in 2012.
