The National Park Service is seeking tips from the public to aid in the ongoing investigation of an aggravated assault that occurred in the evening of March 6, 2024 at Chesapeake & Ohio Canal National Historical Park.
On March 6, 2024, at approximately 6:30 p.m., National Park Service law enforcement rangers, Maryland Natural Resources Police, and Maryland State Police responded to a report of an aggravated assault of a woman on the Canal Towpath Trail near Point of Rocks in Frederick, MD. The assault occurred approximately a half-mile upstream of the Point of Rocks parking area.
The suspect is described as a white man, medium to heavy build, 6’ to 6’1” in height, red or strawberry blonde light beard, wearing a baseball hat, dark hoodie, dark pants, and work boots. The suspect may have driven to the parking area in a black or gray 4 door hatchback vehicle, possibly a Subaru. The suspect and vehicle were observed in the Point of Rocks parking area prior to the assault.
Though no additional details are available at this time, information from other visitors is often very helpful to investigators. If you were in the area of the Point of Rocks parking area or on the Canal Towpath Trail during the evening hours of Wednesday, March 6, 2024, or if you have information that could help, please contact us. You don’t have to tell us who you are, but please tell us what you know.
