Park Management is considering an increase in the camping fee at Bonita Canyon Campground. Currently the camping fee is $12 per site per night, or $6 for Senior, Access, Golden Age and Golden Access passholders. This has been the fee since 2002. For reservations made through Recreation.gov, there is a contract cost of $6.35 for each reservation. With an upcoming change in the contract, that cost will increase to $8.40 per reservation. The fees collected at Chiricahua National Monument remain in the park to directly benefit park operations. There continues to be a growing need for funds to improve facilities, infrastructure and visitor services in parks. Past projects that have been accomplished with fee money include tent pad improvements, new bear boxes, water faucets and picnic tables at the campground. In addition there have been improvements on the Hailstone and Sugarloaf Trails that were completed with fee funding. The new revenue from the fee increases will be used to provide enhanced visitor services including repair and maintenance of facilities, capital improvements, resource protection and additional visitor programs and services. There will be an emphasis on park-deferred maintenance projects. Specific projects will include replacement of damaged and outdated wayside exhibit panels and further trail restoration. If you would like to comment on this process, please fill out a comment card at the Chiricahua Visitor Center, call 520-824-3560 x9302, or go to the Planning Environment and Public Comment (PEPC) website http://parkplanning.nps.gov Thank you for your interest in camping at Chiricahua National Monument.
