The “Bohemia Club” at Cravens House and Artillery Programs at Point Park

Fort Oglethorpe, GA: On Saturday, October 7, Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park invites the public to participate in a variety of programs taking place at Cravens House and at Point Park on Lookout Mountain.

 

At Cravens House, programs will focus on the “Bohemia Club,” a group of journalists and artists, who constructed “Camp Harper’s Weekly” around the house during the winter of 1863/64. In addition to conversing and mingling with living historians portraying artists, civilians, and soldiers visiting during the war, park rangers will provide formal 30 minute programs during the day. At

10 am and at 2 pm, programs will focus on the art associated with the Chattanooga Campaign, while at 11 am and at 3 pm visitors can learn about newspapers and the information they relayed, factual and otherwise, during the siege and battles. Additionally, the Cravens House back porch will be open for visitors to sit, contemplate the nature of their surroundings, and possibly even sketch a drawing of their own.

 

Meanwhile, at Point Park, 30 – 45 minute walking tours discussing the Battles for Chattanooga will take place at 11 am and at 2 pm. Living historians will also provide artillery demonstrations, lasting approximately 30 minutes, at 10:30 am, 11:30 am, 1:30 pm, 2:30 pm, and 3:30 pm. Admission to Point Park is $5 per adult, ages 16 and over. Youth, ages 15 and under, are free.
