Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park is pleased to announce the unveiling of a new Junior Ranger Adventure book on the eve of the 150th anniversary of the Campaign for Chattanooga. Entitled "A Call to Arms," the book opens as war has been declared between the Northern states and Southern states. Potential Junior Rangers enlist in the army where, through a series of activities, they learn what it takes to become Civil War soldiers. Once their training is complete, Junior Rangers find themselves having to make decisions by participating in hands-on activities while in the midst of fighting at Chickamauga and around Chattanooga. This is a free book and can be obtained by asking park rangers or volunteers at the Chickamauga Battlefield or Lookout Mountain Battlefield Information Desks. Additionally, this Junior Ranger Adventure meets portions of the National Council for the Social Studies Standards. Although it is appropriate for grades 3-8, adult assistance is recommended for younger participants. Please keep in mind, in order to receive a Junior Ranger badge, the entire book needs to be completed; this includes visits to both Chickamauga Battlefield and Lookout Mountain Battlefield. |
