Fort Oglethorpe, GA: Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park invites the public to attend artillery programs this summer at Chickamauga Battlefield and at Point Park on Lookout Mountain. For four years, the soundscape of the nation was disrupted by war. The roar of cannon broke the peaceful air and thousands marched off to fight in what became America's bloodiest conflict. At places like Chickamauga and Chattanooga, cannon wrought destruction on bodies and homes. In addition to learning about the stories associated with this conflict, visitors can step back in time to smell the smoke and feel the concussion of war like the soldiers did so many years before. Throughout the year, the park will hold a series of living history artillery programs: ·Lookout Mountain Battlefield (Point Park): May 28, July 2, and October 8-9 ·Chickamauga Battlefield: June 4, September 3, and September 17-18 These programs will last 30 minutes and will be conducted at 10:30 am, 11:30 am, 1:30 pm, 2:30 pm, and 3:30 pm.
