Starting Friday, February 11, 2022, visitors to Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area can enjoy reading a story with their children while also on a hike. This exciting program offers a creative, self-paced and socially distanced way to experience the park. Participants will read the illustrated story “The Kissing Hand,” by Audrey Penn as they move from page to page along the trail. This exciting StoryWalk® program is for families with younger children will be available along the trail around Island Ford Pond in the Island Ford Unit of the park until March 20, 2022.
“This program is a great way for families to get outdoors to enjoy a winter hike and experience a story about animals within their natural habitat,” said Superintendent Ann Honious. “Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area is a great location to experience nature in a socially distanced space. StoryWalk® is a great addition to the wonders that can be found in the forest during winter.”
The Island Ford Unit of Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area is located at 8800 Roberts Drive in Sandy Springs. Sandy Springs. Participants can locate the starting point of the program near the parking lots stairs at the Island Ford Pond.
StoryWalk® was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, Vermont and developed in collaboration with the Kellogg-Hubbard Library. StoryWalk® allows adults and children an opportunity to walk at their own pace to share a reading experience and short hike in a very beautiful forest setting.
