Superintendent F. Gus Sanchez announces that Federal Highways Administration and Del Mar Contracting, Incorporated staff continue working in the park paving the road and parking lots. Beginning tomorrow, the South San Marcial Street entrance will be closed and contractors will begin paving the main parking lot. Access to the Memorial grounds and facilities will be through the Delta Drive gate until further notice. Construction activities will occur daily
from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
There will be flaggers directing traffic for safety. Visitors are advised to use extra caution, watching for workers, barriers, and changes in traffic flow throughout the project.
This project includes removing, milling, and reusing the existing asphalt from all currently paved areas, including roadways and parking areas; compacting and resurfacing a portion of the overflow parking lot to reduce dust; and modifying handicapped access areas, including new concrete parking spaces in the main lot and a new dedicated one outside the comfort station, adjusting the slopes of access ramps at the base of the Esplanade or main walkway from the parking area to the Cultural Center.
There will be handicapped parking spaces available on the grounds throughout the project though their locations will change as needed during the project for safety. Once paving is complete, the road and parking areas will be restriped. Once this project is complete, there will be improved safety and access for all our visitors.
The Memorial grounds are open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. The Cultural Center which includes the Visitor Center, Museum, and Western National Parks Association store are open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
