Parry Primrose - Primula parryi

Like Colorado Columbine, Parry Primrose grows in two seemingly very different habitats in the Cedar Breaks area: moist openings in the subalpine forest and in full sunshine amongst jumbled boulders near Brian Head.

This is one of the showiest species in the Monument, growing to over a foot tall with a number of stems bearing large, deep pink flowers. Many of its relatives with equally showy flowers have been cultivated in gardens since the time of Shakespeare.

Parry Primrose occurs throughout the Rocky Mountain states at higher elevations from subalpine forests to alpine tundra.
