With the enactment of the continuing resolution, staff at Capulin Volcano National Monument will begin adjusted operations on January 28, 2019. Due to a shortage in staffing, operating hours will be 8:30am-4:30pm Thursdays-Mondays. The monument will be closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays until positions can be refilled. Currently staff is working diligently to safely clean sidewalks and roads of ice, snow, and rock that accumulated during the 5-week federal government shutdown.

When venturing back into the monument, the public is asked to stay vigilant as many areas may remain snow packed and icy. Hikers should be aware of current winter conditions and plan accordingly. Know the limits of your abilities and carry the gear necessary to enjoy the beauty that winter brings while enjoying Capulin’s winter resources safely.

Capulin’s employees are happy to be back at work, serving the public. Please visit www.nps.gov/cavo, call the Visitor Center, 575-278-2201, or follow CapulinVolcanoNPS on Facebook or Instagram, for updated information about the monument.
