No SmokingDue to extreme fire danger Capulin Volcano National Monument and the surrounding Union County area is under stage II fire restrictions. Smoking is prohibited within the monument at this time.
Hours of OperationThe Monument is staffed daily from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Vehicles may travel up to the volcano rim until 4:20 p.m. The road to the volcano rim closes at 4:20 p.m. daily. Monument hours will not change beginning Memorial Day.
Weather ForecastPlease check the weather forecast prior to your arrival. Lightning, road washouts, or snow and ice may result in a closure of Volcano Road and the volcano rim.
Over-sized Recreational VehiclesStarting January 1, 2018 no recreational vehicles over 26 feet (7.9 meters) will be allowed to drive up to the top of Capulin Volcano. If you have a tow vehicle, you may park in the over-sized vehicle lot at the base and drive the tow to the top.
Credit/Debit Card Only to pay entrance feesStarting January 1, 2018 Capulin Volcano will only be accepting credit/debit cards for monument entrance fees. There will be limited cash only passes available through our cooperating association.
