Capulin Volcano National Monument is pleased to announce the reintroduction of our Artist in Residence program for fall 2021. 2 four week positions are available this fall to artists wanting to live in the park, express their surroundings in their chosen media, and to engage the public in what Capulin Volcano inspires in their own artistic expression.Experience has shown that an artist’s presence in the park, with the opportunity to interact with the public, can create a memorable experience for visitors while nurturing a deeper appreciation for the natural, historical, cultural and archeological resources that have made these parks an important part of our national heritage.
By offering public programs—workshops, demonstrations, guided walks, or performances— artists can leave lasting impressions that benefit Capulin Volcano, its visitors, and the artist in many and sometimes unanticipated ways.
The positions are available to any artist in most media. Painting, drawing, music, poetry, story telling, and even performance like dance. The options are up to your artistic desires.
"The Artist in Residence program has long been a popular part of Capulin Volcano's mission". Said Dale Kissner, Site Manager. "It will be nice to get the program running again and I look forward to seeing what comes from these creative minds when they immerse themselves in our great little monument".
Applications are accepted through April 16th, and information about applying is available at nps.gov/cavo/getinvolved/artist-in-residence.htm
