Due to the State of New Mexico health order, and the increase of Covid-19 cases in the area, Capulin Volcano National Monument is putting programs on hold through at least August 16th. “We really wanted to find a way to have some programing but keep the public safe.” Said acting Site Manager Geoff Goins. “However, we feel it is in the best interest of public safety, and in compliance with the State health order to cancel planned programs into August.”
Capulin Volcano is still open daily to visitors to the top of the Volcano from 8:30am to 4:30pm, with the last car allowed up the volcano at 4:00pm. Pedestrians and Bicycles may use the road after 4:30pm till dusk. All hiking trails at Capulin are open Dawn to Dusk daily, and the picnic area is open 8:30am to 4:30pm. The Visitor center and Park Store are open to 50% occupancy (10 persons maximum) from 8:30am to 4:30pm.
The rest of the season’s programs will be evaluated as needed and as new orders from the State of New Mexico and Federal Government become available.
