Catoctin Mountain Park offers free orienteering classes
Learn to navigate through the woods with a map and compass
Catoctin Mountain Park will offer basic orienteering classes at 1:00 p.m. on November 5, 6, 12, and 13, at the park visitor center, located at 14707 Park Central Road, Thurmont, MD 21788. Participants will spend about one hour in a classroom setting learning to read a map and compass. They will then venture outside to find orienteering posts located near the visitor center. Maps and compasses are provided. The outdoor portion of the class requires hiking over rough terrain. Participants should wear sturdy shoes or boots and dress for the weather. The program is free, but class size is limited and reservations are required. Please call the Visitor Center at (301) 663-9388 to reserve a spot.
