When possible, this field trip is in-person, but you can enjoy many of the same experiences at home!

Welcome to Catoctin Mountain Park's virtual field trip! We encourage students of all ages to enjoy these programs, but they were designed with fourth-graders in mind. We recommend you download and print (or fill out on the computer) the field trip booklet (.docx, 742kb or .doc, 779kb) to get the most from this virtual visit. Many of the things you'll learn can be seen in your backyard, local park, or even a playground!

  Virtual Field Trip: Campground Investigation

  Ranger Ron was called to the campground, where he discovered a crime scene! While the family was away, their picnic area had been torn apart. Join Ranger Ron as he investigates the site, looks for clues, and learns about animal adaptations. This video was designed as a Virtual Field Trip for 4th grade students as part of Every Kid Outdoors, but it could benefit learners of any age!

  Explore what trees are made up of! Did you know that there are more to trees than just wood and leaves? Ranger Amanda will tell you all about each special component that make up trees. Join VIP Katrinka to make leaf and bark rubbings! Did you know that not all bark is rough and not all leaves look the same? Trees sure are cool when you look more closely!
