Creepy crawlies in a house museum are extra spooky since they can cause significant damage to museum objects. Beetles, moths, termites, and silverfish can do significant damage to textiles, wood and paper on display in a museum. Since the pesticides used to prevent or get rid of pests can also damage collections and be harmful for visitors and staff, Integrated Pest Management (IPM) is utilized by the NPS to the limit the use of toxic pesticides. IPM includes using traps like this one for inspection. |
